Find the Correct Path

Check eligibility in the right order

A rebate maximum is useful only after the correct program, equipment and contractor requirements have been confirmed.

Identify the existing fuel

Confirm the primary space-heating and water-heating fuels. Electric, gas, propane, oil and wood pathways are not interchangeable.

Check income and property type

Income-qualified programs use household size, combined adult income, assessed value and whether the home is ground-oriented or a multi-unit property.

Confirm before installation

Complete any required pre-registration, obtain a valid code and verify the exact equipment combination and contractor status before work begins.

Apply by the deadline

Keep invoices, permits, load calculations, model numbers and forms, then submit within the specific program deadline.

Prepare Before You Apply

Documents commonly needed for HVAC rebate applications

The required package varies by program and upgrade. Ask the contractor to identify which documents they provide and which application responsibilities stay with the homeowner.

  • Detailed paid invoice with installation address, dates, scope and costs.
  • Indoor and outdoor equipment make and model numbers.
  • Contractor company name, licence or program-registration details.
  • Electrical, gas or other applicable permit numbers.
  • Heat-load report and summary form when required.
  • Eligibility code or pre-qualification code.
  • Utility account and account-holder consent where applicable.
  • Proof of payment and any landlord or strata documents.

Do not advertise the Canada Greener Homes Grant or Loan as open

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed, and December 31, 2025 was the final document-submission deadline. The Canada Greener Homes Loan is also closed; October 1, 2025 was the last application date. Homeowners should use current B.C. program sources instead of relying on old federal grant or stacking language. Review the current federal status.

HVAC Rebate FAQ

Questions about B.C. heating and cooling rebates

What is the largest current heat-pump rebate in B.C.?

The CleanBC Energy Savings Program currently displays heat-pump rebates up to $13,000 for eligible income-qualified ground-oriented homes. That amount is not universal. The actual maximum depends on income level, existing fuel, property type, assessed value, equipment and paid project cost.

Can every Surrey homeowner receive a $4,000 BC Hydro heat-pump rebate?

No. The $4,000 amount is for eligible whole-home heat-pump projects replacing electric heating under the Home Renovation Rebate Program. The home, equipment, contractor and heat-load documentation must meet current requirements.

Do I need to apply before the HVAC work starts?

It depends on the program. The Energy Savings Program requires pre-registration and a valid eligibility code before installation. BC Hydro’s standard Home Renovation Rebate Program generally uses a post-installation application, submitted within six months of the invoice date.

Can Accolade guarantee that my rebate will be approved?

No contractor can make the final program decision. Accolade can help identify likely requirements and provide agreed technical documents, but the homeowner and contractor must follow the current terms, and the official administrator determines approval.

Are there still furnace and boiler replacement rebates?

There is no universal rebate for replacing an existing gas furnace or boiler. FortisBC currently lists a limited Connect to Gas pathway for eligible new gas customers converting oil or propane heating, plus maintenance rebates for eligible residential gas appliances.

Can different rebates be stacked?

Do not assume stacking is allowed. Programs often prohibit receiving more than one rebate for the same primary heating or water-heating upgrade. Some add-ons or multi-upgrade bonuses exist, but they must be confirmed in the current official terms.

Which date determines the rebate rules?

Programs commonly use the invoice date, registration date or approval-code date. Because program details can change, keep dated quotes and verify which terms apply before installation.

Who submits the rebate application?

The process varies. Some programs use a homeowner application, while the Energy Savings Program may pay the registered contractor and reduce the customer’s invoice. The written project scope should state who supplies documents, who submits the application and who remains responsible for eligibility.
